CalArts Union Information
This site is intended to be a resource for the CalArts community to find information about unionization at the Institute. CalArts supports fair, transparent, and good-faith practices that ensure its employees have the information they need to stay informed throughout this important process.
The Institute respects its employees’ right to organize, and is committed to maintaining a supportive, creative, and collaborative teaching, learning, and working environment for all members of our community. CalArts does not have an opinion for or against unionization, and respects our employees’ decision to engage CalArts United-United Auto Workers as their exclusive bargaining representative.
We encourage you to check this site regularly for FAQs, resources, and ongoing updates. If you have suggestions for this site, please contact the Office of Communications at communications@calarts.edu.
Updates
Progress update
Over the past several weeks, CalArts and CalArts United-UAW have continued productive discussions regarding the scope of the employee groups, or units, the union seeks to represent, and have reached agreement on many points.
Information session added for Feb. 6
The General Counsel’s Office and Human Resources are partnering to host a series of meetings to provide information and answer your questions about the unionization process and what it may mean for CalArts. The sessions are open to all CalArts staff and faculty and will take place on Zoom. We are adding an additional session for Thursday, Feb. 6, from 4-5 pm, as some sessions were postponed due to the recent campus closure.
