The CalArts and CU-UAW bargaining teams met on Nov. 19 for their fifth session on consolidated bargaining. The parties continued to discuss and exchange proposals on the following topics: Health and Safety (both parties proposed counters), Job Postings (CalArts presented its counter), Nondiscrimination in Employment (UAW presented its counter and the parties discussed at length), Orientations (UAW proposed its counter), and Union Access (same).
CU-UAW asked more questions about CalArts’ Policies and Procedures proposal, which were answered, and represented a counter was forthcoming at the next session. In conjunction with the Nondiscrimination in Employment article, CU-UAW stated it would provide some suggested edits to the Standards of Professional Conduct Institute-wide policy proposed. With respect to the Health and Safety article, CalArts discussed that the external-facing cameras at the Institute are expected to be installed next year, in accordance with what the shared governance bodies (Academic Council, Staff Council, and Student Union) engaged on this topic in the past couple of years.
The parties are getting close to tentative agreements on many of these exchanged proposals. They will hold off on further bargaining on CU-UAW’s Parking and Transit proposal until the economic proposals are addressed together, as it this proposal has an economic component.
The parties also attended to some housekeeping items such as discussing one limited amendment to the Ground Rules.
