The CalArts and CU-UAW bargaining teams met today for their second session of consolidated bargaining. CalArts responded to all of the Union’s proposals presented at the first session on Oct. 1 (Parking and Transit, Union Access, Union Security, Union-Management Committee, and Severability). CalArts’ counters to the Union’s proposals were based on the operational and fiscal priorities of the institution, while also recognizing and responding to the needs of our employees in good faith. The parties reached a Tentative Agreement (TA) on Severability.
The Union did not provide counterproposals to CalArts’ proposed articles from the Oct. 1 session (Management Rights, No Strike-No Lockout, and Complete Agreement).
The Union provided the following additional proposals: Job Postings, Health and Safety, and Nondiscrimination.
The Institute provided the following additional proposal: Policies and Procedures. This is a fairly standard article stating that the Institute’s policies and procedures apply so long as they do not conflict with the CBA provisions (e.g., Title IX, Workplace Violence Prevention Plan, Anti-Hazing Policy, etc.).
The next bargaining session is in two weeks. We look forward to continuing our good-faith efforts to reach agreement with the Union on each proposal in a timely manner.
