On Friday, Aug. 21, the CalArts Bargaining Team sent this email to CalArts faculty and staff, announcing that tentative agreement was reached between the Institute and CU-UAW.
Dear Colleagues,
We are glad to share that CalArts and CU-UAW have reached a tentative agreement on new collective bargaining agreements for Regular and Technical Faculty, Special Faculty, and Staff.
Arriving at this moment took many months of hard, honest work at the table. Both bargaining teams worked through difficult conversations, and we’re grateful for the care and persistence they brought to finding common ground. We believe this agreement reflects that effort: It’s fair to our employees and sound for the Institute.
Next Steps
Both parties (CalArts Board of Trustees and CU-UAW members) will hold a ratification vote. We’ll share the voting schedule and additional details as soon as they’re set. More information about the tentative agreement is also forthcoming and will be shared with the community next week.
Until that ratification vote is complete, current operations and policies remain in place—nothing changes yet.
