CalArts and CU-UAW met three times for bargaining the week of July 13: Once for bargaining for Staff, once for bargaining on a consolidated basis, and once for bargaining on faculty articles.
At the Staff bargaining session, the parties reached tentative agreements on the (1) Layoff & Recall and (2) Workspace and Materials articles. CalArts exchanged its counterproposal for Probation and CU-UAW exchanged its counterproposals for the following articles: (1) Job Description and Classification and (2) Scheduling and Workload.
At Consolidated Bargaining, CU-UAW exchanged counterproposals for (1) Duration, (2) Release Time, (3) Nondiscrimination and Harassment, and (4) New Technology. CalArts provided counters on (1) Leave and Professional Development. Release Time is for union stewards and for negotiation time for the next CBA.
At the session for Regular and Technical Faculty and Special Faculty, CalArts exchanged proposals on (1) Special Faculty Compensation, (2) Special Faculty Appointment and Reappointments, (3) Special Faculty Responsibilities, (4) Regular Faculty Responsibilities, (5) Technical Faculty Responsibilities, (6) Technical Faculty Responsibilities, (7) Library Faculty Responsibilities, (8) Regular and Technical Faculty Compensation, and (9) Regular and Technical Faculty Appointments, Obligation Period, and Workload. CU-UAW provided its counterproposal on (1) Academic and Artistic Freedom.
