CalArts and CU-UAW Discuss Separate Unit Bargaining at April 1 Session

CalArts and CU-UAW met on April 1, 2026, for an additional session of consolidated bargaining. The parties largely discussed the ground rules for separate unit bargaining, which is set to begin April 15, 2026. There was great progress and the parties have primarily agreed to a rotating schedule between the staff and faculty units. Once more substantive proposals are exchanged and countered, there will likely be an opportunity for additional and more frequent sessions.

CU-UAW then presented a package proposal that incorporated their Parking and Transit article with Work Travel, followed by a new proposal on Workspace and Materials. CalArts exchanged a counter proposal to the Holidays article, which mostly offered additional clarifying language. After productive conversation, the parties are reaching tentative agreement on the Holiday article.

Additionally, CalArts shared the update that requests for quotes have been made with various healthcare captives (cooperatives), and it’s expecting responses in another two weeks. As soon as CalArts has additional information, CalArts will share that information with CU-UAW for discussion.
