CU-UAW requested another two-week extension to the supervisory challenge briefing, this time to the reply briefs due this Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025. CalArts denied this request, as it had already given CU-UAW an extension for the opening briefs and did not want to further delay the outcome of the supervisory challenge. It is important to know which of the remaining challenged employees are deemed to be in the CU-UAW units or not for the purposes of bargaining the separate unit contracts, among other things. (The opening briefs were originally due on Oct. 14. CU-UAW requested and CalArts agreed to a two-week extension to Oct. 28.)
For this recent extension request to the reply brief, the arbitrator nevertheless gave CU-UAW another two weeks, but stated no further extensions will be granted to CU-UAW. The reply briefs are now due Dec. 18. The objections to evidence relating to the reply briefs are due Jan. 2, 2026, and the arbitrator’s first decision on the papers will be due Feb. 6.
