In negotiations, CWA (Communications Workers of American, the union that represents a small number of CalArts’ technical faculty) requested and CalArts agreed to enhance the medical benefits for 9-, 10-, and 11-month staff employees. For those employees working full-time on a 9-, 10-, or 11-month contract, CalArts agreed to treat their medical benefits like those of a full-time, 12-month employee. CalArts extended the same benefit to CU-UAW, who agreed to the application to the respective CU-UAW staff. Those benefits became effective this month, September 2025, and the same will apply to any non-union employees who fit these parameters.
